Ladies, Keep on Blogging

Eff_bloggers I came across an interesting report today  from BlogHer and C ompass Partners, which revealed that 36.2 million women actively participate in the blogosphere each week, with 15.1 million publishing and 21.1 million reading and commenting. That's a lot of chatter, Ladies!

The report also says that women are so passionate about blogging, large percentages of them would give up something in order to keep the blogs they read and/or write:

  • 55% would give up alcohol
  • 50% would give up their PDAs
  • 42% would give up their i-Pod
  • 43% would give up reading the newspaper or magazines
  • 20% would give up chocolate

As a long-time blogger, I'm all-too-familiar with the addictive nature of the medium. I may not post as frequently or as in-depth as I used to in the early days (and I certainly wouldn't give up alcohol, the Blackberry, or chocolate for it), but my interest is still there (friends will attest that I'll often say, "that would make a great blog post!").

And I'm still an active reader of blogs - upwards of 50 business & personal publications that I track daily via Netvibes. But even in busy times when I don't have the time/energy to compose a long post, I'll still publish photos via the Blackberry...just to stay connected to the 'sphere.

My friend Ryan remarked just yesterday on the sheer volume of interesting posts out there, the ease with which you can find info that truly matters to you, and the joy of meeting people from all over the world...all through a simple Web interface.

So, my fellow women bloggers - like Ryan, Rebecca, Heather & Jessica, Beth, Lori, and the 15,099,993 others I won't list here - would you give up chocolate for blogging?

PS: that great image above is courtesy of the Informed Voter blog, which has compiled a list of over 275 women blogging on politics.

Yes, yes, I would. But only because writing is everything. And chocolate makes you fat ;)

Hi. Thanks for linking to my list of women bloggers. The list now has over 400 women bloggers, and it's own blog.

I'm not a huge chocolate fan, so I would give up chocolate for blogging. Not sure about Lattes though.

Chocolate actually isn't my favorite sweet, so I could go without it.

Alcohol, on the other hand... now that's a tough one. Besides, I can always make the case that my posts are more compelling when fueled by booze.
